So, back to our letter.
A few weeks back, I covered a few mistakes that many creators make.
One of the mistakes was not scripting the videos. We will dig deeper into it today.
Tell me something.
Do people typically script their family reunion videos?
How about birthday celebration videos or university farewells?
No, right? Because these are spontaneous moments captured on camera.
Perhaps Uncle Jim brought his latest Sony camcorder and recorded the family reunion.
These are cherished memories, each moment absolutely irreplaceable. The beauty of such videos lies in their spontaneity.
Yet, for content meant for a wider audience or with a specific message, the power of scripting becomes evident.
There is a reason why MrBeast or Ali Abdaal and creators like them are considered pro.
They use processes and tools.
Scripting is part of such a process.
Check out Niklas Christl’s YouTube film-making setup and you’ll know what I mean.
Just a little bit of scripting BEFORE creating content has tremendous effects.
Let’s take a look at a few.
We may intuitively know the logical flow of the content. But directly creating it makes it error-prone. Scripting takes care of this. We can see the gaps in our content flow BEFORE we create.
Educational content or entertainment content. No matter the category. We want to convey a message. Scripting brings about clarity.
Scripting increases the amount of value served per minute of content. Why? Because you will see through any noise and cut it BEFORE producing it.
How many times did you have to reshoot a 10-second segment or provide important info using on-screen notes during the editing phase? Scripting doesn’t let you forget important things.
Time = money
If you can identify unnecessary content or mistakes BEFORE you produce it, won’t it be a superpower? Well, that’s what scripting offers — a superpower.
Do you have to redo some of the audio bites during editing? I mean frequently?
If you use scripting a little bit in detail, you can practice the intonation by reading them out loud. Again, that’s BEFORE creating any piece of content.
YouTube’s chapter feature is a massive SEO opportunity. Though YouTube provides automatic chapter creation, if you’re serious about building a YouTube business, you may want to use your own chapters and control how your content is displayed. Scripting helps you do this.
I know scripting may sound like a lottt of work.
But then what would you prefer if you had 6 hours to cut a tree?:
A. Sharpen your saw for 2 hours and use remaining 4 for cutting the tree. Confident that you will cut the tree.
B. You’ll just get into action, right from the beginning? Not confident about cutting the tree.
You don't have to become a Hollywood scriptwriter to get started.
Get this script format in Google Docs and make it yours as you like.
