⬆️ What does Apple Vision Pro’s debut mean for Creators?

On June 5th, 2023, at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled its upcoming $3500 mixed-reality headset:

Apple Vision Pro.

Apple’s entry into mixed-reality tech signifies people’s real wants.

Personalized, immersive experiences.

And that’s a signal for creators.

So, what does that mean for your content?

Hi Upview fam,

Most of the time, we discuss the role of a piece of software — an algorithm — in the success or failure of a content creator’s journey.

But today I want to draw your attention to the beautiful development in the space of hardware, software, and design.

Mind you, I’m not talking exclusively about Apple’s Vision Pro. But the tech of mixed reality in general.

Beyond the fourth wall

For years, great cinema creators have tried to break the fourth wall. When they did, they were rewarded with recognition, authority, and money.

What does this mixed-reality tech do? It doesn't break the fourth wall.

Instead, it takes the viewer beyond the fourth wall without breaking it. Soo smoothly, that the viewer doesn’t realize it.

Immersive interactions

The mixed-reality headsets take the viewer beyond the fourth wall by allowing them to immerse themselves. And allowing them to interact as they like.

Imagine this:

A viewer is using a Vision Pro headset. They’re watching your content on YouTube.

Will your content offer meaningful interaction points to them?

If not, they’d shift to the ones that do. By gesturing to skip the video or lazily switching to some other app.

We don’t need to wait for Vision Pro

Think about it.

Even today — without Vision Pro — YouTube already provides features for meaningful interactions.

Are we using them enough?

Interaction elements

Three powerful features on YouTube.

1. Chapters

You can check out this official article on how to add chapters to YouTube videos.

Understand that our goal as content creators is to “help the viewer find what they’re looking for.”

This means they might be looking for a 1-minute segment that is useful to them in your 10-minute-long video. Our goal is to help them do just that. Chapters help do this in a meaningful way.

2. Info Cards

Check out this official article on how to add info cards to YouTube videos.

What if the viewer might be looking for something that might be somewhere else — another video, webpage, or a playlist?

That’s where this interactive feature comes in handy.

Place them at a specific time when you know the viewer might want to take help with this.

3. End Screens

Check out this official article on how to add end screens to YouTube videos.

As the name suggests, the screens appear at the end of the video.

Help the viewer find what they’re looking for by suggesting related videos or playlists. And of course, asking them to subscribe.

Look at the typical layout of end-screen elements.

By practicing to make your videos interactive today, you up your odds of making it big in tomorrow’s Metaverse.
