⬆️ YouTube’s Culture & Trends Report 2023 is out!

Did you know that YouTube has been releasing its Culture & Trends reports for the past couple of years?

This year’s report is extremely important due to the AI revolution.

The things that I found fascinating in the Culture & Trends report.

Highlights

1. Creation is commonplace

82% of surveyed people say they’ve posted video content online in the past 1 year.

For example, watch this fan-created trailer reimagining “Star Wars,” as if directed by Wes Anderson.

Of course, it uses AI tools.

2. Consumption is boundless

68% of surveyed people say they watch videos about a specific topic in multiple different formats (e.g., short form, long form, podcasts, live streams)

3. New levels of fandoms have emerged

There are now new levels of participation of audiences.

  1. Casual Fan: just consumes content
  2. Active Fan: creates their own Shorts and remixes, share online
  3. Professional Fan: creates in-depth, professional quality content

4. More formats mean more…fans, stories, scale, and impact

The audience is seeking different formats to fit their mood.

67% of surveyed Gen-Z say they like it when their favorite creators create in different formats.

For example, alongside long-form workout videos, creator Cassey Ho now offers Shorts content focused on her foray into athleisure entrepreneurism. And her fans are loving it!

5. Tools make viewing more personal…

Closed captions and multi-language audio tracks are taking the reach beyond cultural, geographic, or language barriers.

In his hit song “Masquerade,” Korean singer MIDNATT sings in six languages, reaching new audiences by enabling listeners to choose which language they’d like via the audio track picker tool.

6. …and reduce friction for creators

New tools are making it easier than ever for Creators to clip, remix, add effects, or create avatars for their video content.

14M+ videos have been created EACH month in 2023 using the YouTube clipping feature.

7. AI is exponentializing possibility

60% of surveyed people agree they’re open to watching content from creators who use AI to generate their content.
